Muscle Cars

Muscle cars are the high performance automobiles. These are the mid-sized cars of 1960s and 1970s. This is an American 2-door rear wheel drive equipped with powerful V8s. They are sold at an affordable price for street use. They are also formally and informally used for drag racing.

Muscle cars are distinct from the two-seated sports cars which are intended for road racing or high-speed touring. Emerging from the American phenomenon muscle cars have also developed in their own fashions in South Africa, Australia, UK, etc. There are a number of muscle car models like the Buick Skylark Gran Sport, the Ford Thunderbird and the Chevrolet Malibu SS.

Muscles cars have more advanced features than the other conventional cars. They are more powerful and have high speed. Muscle cars enjoyed their first height of popularity in the year 1964 to 1972 in the United States. The car buyers were truly amazed by the muscle cars.

The most important fact about these cars is that they are affordable. Muscle cars can be divided into four different categories. They can be classified as the American, South African, British and Australian. The US car makers first popularized the concept of muscle cars.

The American Motors' Rebel sedan was one of the earliest muscle car. Mopar and Thunderbolts were later brought up by the Ford. In South Africa, Chevrolet has been actively operating to raise the demand of the muscle cars. This company introduced the Z28 302 model which was later renamed as Firenza CanAm.

In Australia too the popularity of muscle cars escalated. The carmakers like Holden, Chrysler Australia and Ford Australia shared the popularity of the muscle automobiles. Some of the Australian muscle cars were even exported to the other countries.

The Ford Australia's XR Falcon, Holden Monaro GTS 350, and Chrysler Australia's R/T Valiant Charger are amongst the popular Australian muscle models ever built and marketed. Muscle cars are the biggest and most interesting innovations in the automobile industry.
